Leaf primordium (English spelling)

...The leaves of club moss have single veins.

Leaves grow laterally on the stem, but the leaf primordium forms near the apex of the stem, slightly below the growing point of the stem. When the leaf primordium grows a little, the upper and lower parts become clearly defined, and the lower leaf base forms the leaf sheath and stipules, while the upper leaf forms the leaf blade and petiole.
