Takada [town] - Takata
A former town in Miike County, southern Fukuoka Prefecture. It is served by the Kagoshima Main Line and the Nishitetsu Tenjin-Omuta Line. It produces mandarin oranges, wheat, and vegetables, and rice and seaweed farming is thriving along the Ariake Sea coast, mainly on reclaimed land. Development of the Ariake coal mine was halted in 1968, but coal production resumed in 1975 after a review of coal production. The mine was subsequently closed. In January 2007, it merged with Setaka Town and Yamakawa Town in Yamagata County to form Miyama City. 41.01 km2 . Population: 14,219 (2005).

福岡県南部,三池郡の旧町。鹿児島本線,西鉄天神大牟田線が通じる。ミカン,麦,蔬菜を産し,有明海沿岸では干拓地を中心に米作とノリ養殖が盛ん。有明炭鉱は1968年開発中止となったが,石炭の見直しにより1975年出炭再開。その後廃鉱した。2007年1月,山門郡瀬高町,山川町と合併し,みやま市となる。41.01km2。1万4219人(2005)。
