Bunko

He was one of the Five Hegemons of the Spring and Autumn Period in China, and ruled the state of Jin (reigned 636-628 BC). His pen name was Chong'er. He fled the country during the civil war that broke out when his father, Duke Xian, favored Princess Li, and spent 19 years wandering around Di, Qi, Chu, and Qin, but returned to China with the help of Duke Mu of Qin and ascended to the throne. He helped King Xiang of Zhou, who had fled to Zheng during the civil war in the Zhou Dynasty, return to China, and defeated the powerful Chu in the south in the Battle of Chengpu (Shandong Province), defending the Central Plains. He gathered feudal lords at Jiantu (Henan Province) to host an alliance and was given the title of Bo (Hege) by the king.

中国、春秋五覇(ごは)の1人で、晋(しん)の君主（在位前636～前628）。字(あざな)は重耳(ちょうじ)。父の献公(けんこう)が驪姫(りき)を寵愛(ちょうあい)したことから発した内乱で国外に亡命し、狄(てき)、斉(せい)、楚(そ)、秦(しん)などに19年間の流寓(りゅうぐう)生活を送ったが、秦の穆公(ぼくこう)の援助を受けて帰国し、即位した。周室の内乱で鄭(てい)に亡命していた周の襄(じょう)王を助けて帰国させ、また強大化した南方の楚を城濮(じょうぼく)（山東省）の戦いで破り、中原(ちゅうげん)を防衛した。践土(せんど)（河南省）に諸侯を集めて会盟を主催し、王より伯（覇）を賜った。
