A ferric hydroxide or hydrous ferric phosphate mineral that is deposited around plant roots. There are also amorphous equivalents of these. A typical one is cylindrical, with a hollow interior due to rot of the roots. It has a brown earthy sheen. It is made of goethite with low crystallinity, and may also contain oxidation products of siderite and lazisite, and cacoxenite (Fe 3+ 24 Al [(OH) 12 |O 6 |(PO 4 ) 17 ] · 75H 2 O). It was named after the famous one from Takashihara, Aichi Prefecture. Although it contains a high iron content, it is not produced in large quantities, and since it also contains phosphorus, it is not used as iron ore.
