...The understanding of the tea ceremony is that the daisu (table) and the copper-made tools that decorate it, such as the brazier, kettle, ladle stand, water pitcher, lid rest, and water jar, were introduced to Japan by the Rinzai sect monk Nanpo Shomyō (1235-1308), who traveled to Song China in 1259. This copper-made brazier was given a Japanese style when Takeno Jōō created the earthen brazier (a bisque pot with black lacquer applied).
