A general term for silk crepe fabrics. Usually, untwisted raw silk is used for the warp thread, and two strong twisted threads called crepe wefts are used for the weft thread, alternating between two right-twisted and two left-twisted, to create a plain weave, which is then refined to create the wrinkles. It is a supple and decorative fabric, available in plain colors, yuzen dyeing, and komon dyeing, and is considered a high-quality Japanese fabric. In recent years, it has also been made from synthetic fibers, synthetic fibers, and woolen fabrics to imitate silk. There are many types, including hitokoshi, which is woven with one strong twisted thread each on the left and right, uzura, which has four or more threads, kinsha, which is made with thin threads, rinzu, which has a woven pattern, and omeshi, which is made with refined threads. Famous production areas include Nishijin and Tango regions in Kyoto, Nagahama in Shiga Prefecture, Tokamachi in Niigata Prefecture, and Kiryu in Gunma Prefecture. →Related item Silk fabrics Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
