University of Ibadan

It is the oldest university in Nigeria, originating from Yaba Senior College, which was established in 1934 under British rule as a vocational training institution for secondary education. When it moved to Ibadan in 1948, it became a university college affiliated with the University of London (UK). Initially, it was positioned as an external campus of the University of London due to its purpose of establishment and management, but in 1962, it became independent from the University of London as part of the decolonization movement and became the national university of Nigeria, the University of Ibadan. Many of the presidents of other universities in Nigeria that were established later came from this university. According to the Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR) published in 2013 by the University of Granada in Spain, it is the first research university in Nigeria and the sixth in Africa. It has a hospital and a zoo attached to the university, and has about 1,400 faculty members, about 21,600 full-time students, and about 1,400 distance learning students (2011) .

ナイジェリア最古の大学で，イギリス統治下の1934年，中等教育段階の職業訓練機関として設立されたヤバ上級カレッジを起源とする。1948年のイバダンへの移転とともに，ロンドン大学（イギリス）と提携したユニバーシティ・カレッジとなった。当初は設置目的や運営形態から実質的なロンドン大学の外部キャンパスとして位置付けられたが，1962年には脱植民地化の流れでロンドン大学から独立し，ナイジェリアの国立大学，イバダン大学となった。のちに創設されたナイジェリアの他大学の学長の多くを本学から輩出している。2013年に公表されたスペインのグラナダ大学による世界学術研究機関ランキング（Scimago Institutions Rankings: SIR）によると，ナイジェリアで1番目に，またアフリカで6番目に優れた研究大学とされる。大学付属の病院や動物園を有し，教員数は約1400人，フルタイムの学生約2万1600人のほか，約1400人が遠隔教育で学んでいる（2011年）。
