After-feelings

… Common sayings are wise words used in daily life, and slang is folk sayings. The combination of these two is the original proverb, but in addition to these, moral sayings are called aphorisms, proverbs, and famous sayings, and somewhat literary, established idioms are called idioms, and even these are not far removed from folklore. There are also humorous or posthumous feelings, such as ``Playing chess on a go board'' (wei qi board li xia xiang qi), which is a kind of pun (posthumous words) that alludes to the lower phrase ``not pairing the route'', meaning a wrong way of doing things, and riddles, which are also included in common sayings and slang. Up until now, the themes of Chinese common sayings and slang have been particularly lamenting the tyranny of officials, such as ``I like officials, but I don't like management'' and ``Even when the tiger is gone, there are still mountains to climb.

…常言は日常の至言，俗語は民俗の語録で，この二つをあわせたものが本来の諺にあたるが，このほか教訓的な文句を格言，箴言，名言とよび，いくらか文人的な既成の慣用句を成言とよんでおり，これらにしても民俗から遠くはなれていない。また諧（かい）後感あるいは歇（けつ）後感といって，たとえば〈囲棋盤里下象棋(碁盤で将棋をさす)〉といえば，〈不対路数〉つまりまちがったやりくちを意味する下の句を暗示でとかせる一種のしゃれ言葉(歇後語)や，謎語も常言，俗語に重複している。今までの中国の常言，俗語の主題には，役人の横暴をうらむものがとくに多く，〈官吏はよいが管理はいやだ〉〈トラが去っても山がある。…
