Born November 11, 1733 in Albany, New York.
[Died] November 18, 1804, Albany, New York. American politician and soldier. Large landowner in New York. Participated in the French and Indian War from 1755 to 1760, and was commander of the Northern District of the North American Colonial Army in 1775. Led the attack on Quebec from 1775 to 1776 (General R. Montgomery actually led the attack). Participated in the Revolutionary War as a patriot. Delegate from New York to the Continental Congress from 1778 to 1881. Senator from New York from 1889 to 1891 and from 1897 to 1898. Actively supported the protectionism and financial plans of his son-in-law A. Hamilton.
