Order Lacertidae, family Lacertidae. Total length is 15-20 cm, with an extremely slender tail taking up more than two-thirds of the length. The back is green, with yellowish-white stripes on both sides, but the base color can change to brown. Compared to the Japanese mainland lizards, the body is thin and weak. It lives in fields and grasslands, and is often seen climbing grass to sunbathe. It is endemic to the Ryukyu Islands, and is found south of Kohokojima Island in the Tokara Islands.

トカゲ目カナヘビ科。全長 15～20cmで，きわめて細長い尾が全長の3分の2以上を占める。背面は緑色で，側面両側に黄白色の条線があるが，地色は褐色に変りうる。日本本土のカナヘビに比べて体が細くて弱々しい。畑や草地にすみ，草に登って日光浴をしているのがよく見られる。琉球列島の固有種で，吐噶喇 (とから) 列島の小宝島以南に分布する。
