An international tourist resort city in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland. Population 22,170 (2001). Located on the northeastern shore of Lake Geneva, it has a long history dating back to the early 19th century when it developed as a summer resort. People from all over the country flock to the city due to its good climate, beautiful scenery, and convenient transportation. Its jazz festival is famous. The hotel has over 5,000 beds.
