Daigoji Temple Documents

Japanese: 醍醐寺文書 - だいごじもんじょ

A collection of documents handed down to Daigoji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. The sacred texts and ancient documents total about 800 boxes and 100,000 items. Sorting and research began in 1910, and the documents are stored in a newly constructed repository. The documents include those handed down by temple leaders and inn families, including Sanbo-in Temple, and those related to the head priests of Shinomura Hachiman Shrine and Takakura Tenjin Shrine. They include documents related to the temple affairs and economy of the main temple of Daigoji Temple, such as the head priest, various events, and temple land, and documents related to the succession of the head priest position and land control of the inn families. Sorting and research is ongoing, and the documents are published as the "Daigoji Documents" in the "Dai Nippon Komonjo". Currently, paintings, calligraphy, and classics are stored in the northern storehouse of Daigoji Temple, and sacred texts and ancient documents are stored in the southern storehouse.

京都市伏見区の真言宗醍醐派総本山醍醐寺に伝えられた文書群。聖教・古文書をあわせ約800函・約10万点を数える。整理・調査は1910年に着手され，新たに建造された収蔵庫に納められた。古文書は，三宝(さんぼう)院をはじめとする門跡・院家に伝来したものと，篠村(しのむら)八幡宮・高倉天神別当職関係のものなどからなり，座主・諸行事・寺領など醍醐寺本寺の寺務・経済に関わるもの，諸院家の院主職相承・所領支配等に関わるものなどがある。整理・調査は継続されており，〈大日本古文書〉の《醍醐寺文書》として刊行されている。現在醍醐寺の北倉に絵画・書跡・典籍類，南倉に聖教・古文書類が納められている。
