The narrator of the Tales of the Thousand and One Nights. The Sassanid king Shahryar had a custom of killing each new wife the next morning, which left him with no daughters to marry. The daughter of a minister, Scheherazade, willingly married the king, and together with her sister Dunyazad, she told the king stories, opening his heart on the Thousand and One Nights. Rimsky-Korsakov also composed a symphonic suite of the same name. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
