Scheherazade

The narrator of the Tales of the Thousand and One Nights. The Sassanid king Shahryar had a custom of killing each new wife the next morning, which left him with no daughters to marry. The daughter of a minister, Scheherazade, willingly married the king, and together with her sister Dunyazad, she told the king stories, opening his heart on the Thousand and One Nights. 《千夜一夜物語》の語り手。ササン朝のシャハリヤール王が妃を迎えるごとに，翌朝殺すという習慣をもったため，妃となる娘がなくなった。大臣の娘シェーラザードは自ら進んで王に嫁ぎ，妹のドゥンヤーザードDunyazadとともに，王に物語を聞かせ，千一夜めにその心を解く。なお，リムスキー・コルサコフに同名の交響組曲がある。
