Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
Founded in 1876 on the site of the government-run Ishikawajima Shipyard, this is the first private shipbuilding company. In 1960, the company merged with Harima Shipyard to become Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. In 1968, the company merged with Kure Shipyard, and through a series of mergers, it has become one of Japan's leading comprehensive heavy industry companies. In July 2007, the company changed its name to IHI. The company has also expanded overseas, including to Brazil and Korea. The company manufactures aircraft engines, land machinery plants, ships, and nuclear equipment. However, the shipbuilding division, which has problems such as excess capacity, formed a business partnership with Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Mitsui Shipbuilding in 2000. The company is the top manufacturer of civil jet engines in Japan. Head office in Tokyo, factories in Yokohama, Aioi, Kure, etc. Capital in 2011 was 95.7 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 1,187.2 billion yen. Sales breakdown (%) is as follows: Resources and energy 23, ships and marine 15, logistics and infrastructure 17, rotating and industrial machinery 15, aerospace 23, and others 7. Overseas sales ratio: 43%.

1876年官営石川島造船所の跡に創業した民間最初の造船会社。1960年播磨造船所を合併して石川島播磨重工業となる。1968年には呉造船所を合併するなど,つぎつぎと合併を重ねて,日本有数の総合重工業会社となった。2007年7月社名をIHIに変更。ブラジル,韓国など海外にも進出している。航空エンジン,陸上機械プラント,船舶,原子力機器などを生産。しかし過剰設備などの問題をかかえる造船部門は2000年に川崎重工業,三井造船と業務提携。民間ジェットエンジンで国内首位。本社東京,工場横浜,相生,呉など。2011年資本金957億円,2011年3月期売上高1兆1872億円。売上構成(%)は,資源・エネルギー23,船舶・海洋15,物流・社会基盤17,回転・産業機械15,航空・宇宙23,その他7。海外売上比率43%。
