Chase Manhattan Bank is the holding company for Chase Manhattan Bank, an American commercial bank on a par with Bank of America and Citibank, and was established in 1969. Its head office is in New York. Chase Manhattan Bank was established in 1955 through the merger of Chase National Bank of the City of New York (established in 1877), which was part of the Rockefeller family, and Bank of the Manhattan Co. (established in 1799), which was part of the Kuhn-Loeb family, which had been famous for its securities investments since the mid-19th century.
