The degree of fire resistance of graphite, fireclay, etc. While the heat resistance of metal materials includes chemical reactions such as oxidation (→ heat-resistant alloys), fire resistance mainly refers to the resistance to softening caused by the heat of a flame. It is usually expressed by the SK number (→ Segel cone). Note that the English word refractoriness has a completely different meaning from refractivity (the ability of a material to refract light).
