Versöhnung (English spelling)

In Christianity, the forgiveness of sins is considered to be the free grace of God in the eschatological period, and also a one-time event by the cross of Christ, and is called by various words such as "redemption," "compensation," "propitiation," "forgiveness," "liberation," and "reconciliation." The English word "atonement" means to become one, "reconciliation" means to restore fellowship, and the German word "Versöhnung" means to appease, but all of these words have departed from their original meanings and are metaphorically linked to the event of the cross. In Japanese, they are usually represented by "reconciliation."
