Savaria in Latin, Steinamanger in German. A city in western Hungary, near the Austrian border. In Roman times, it was the capital of the province of Upper Pannonia. It prospered as the administrative, economic, and transportation center of northern Pannonia until the Huns invaded in the 5th century. It was a key transportation hub connected by rail to Budapest, Vienna, Graz, and Zagreb. Wine, fruit, molasses, spices, and other products from the surrounding areas were distributed there, and agricultural machinery was manufactured. Population: 85,702 (1991 estimate).

ラテン語ではサワリア Savaria，ドイツ語ではシュタイナマンガー Steinamanger。ハンガリー西部，オーストリア国境に近い都市。ローマ時代には属州上パンノニアの首都であった。5世紀にフン人が侵入するまでパンノニア北部の行政，経済，交通の中心として繁栄。ブダペスト，ウィーン，グラーツ，ザグレブと鉄道で結ばれる交通の要地。周辺地域に産するワイン，果実，糖蜜，香料などを集散し，農機具を製造する。人口8万 5702 (1991推計) 。
