A general term for birds in the family Recurvirostridae, order Charadriiformes, or one of these. Birds in this family are widely distributed in the warm and tropical regions of the world, and there are four genera and seven species. All species have long legs and a slender shape. Avocets consist of one genus, Recurvirostra , and four species, with one species each found in Eurasia, Africa, Australia, and South America. They are around 40cm long. チドリ目セイタカシギ科Recurvirostridaeの鳥の総称,またはそのうちの1種を指す。この科の鳥は世界の温熱帯に広く分布し,4属7種がある。どの種も脚が長く,スマートな形をしている。ソリハシセイタカシギ類(英名avocet)はソリハシセイタカシギ属Recurvirostraの1属4種からなり,ユーラシアとアフリカ,オーストラリア,南アメリカにそれぞれ1種ずつ分布している。全長は約40cm内外。
