This refers to a state in which a certain amount or more of protein is excreted in the urine, and the excreted protein is called urinary protein. Normally, the glomeruli of the kidneys allow substances with a molecular weight of 10,000 or less to pass through relatively easily, but only very small amounts of substances with a molecular weight of several tens of thousands or more, such as plasma proteins, pass through. Therefore, in the urine of healthy people, there are very small amounts of proteins that have passed through the glomeruli, as well as small amounts of proteins originating from the renal tubules and urinary tract (an average of 40 to 80 mg per day). However, the amount of protein in the urine can increase after strenuous exercise, when under mental stress, when in a certain position such as standing or lying down, or when there is a fever.
