Businessman. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Following his father into the coal mining business, he built Aso Shoten (the predecessor to Aso Cement) into one of the leading local mining companies known as the Chikuho Gosanke (three great families of Chikuho) with the motto "quality is important." He also established Kaho Bank (1896), Kaho Electric Light (1908), Kyushu Industrial Railway (1919), and other companies to promote business diversification, and in one generation he established a solid position in Kyushu's financial world with coal mining, electricity, and railway businesses at its core. During this time, he held important positions such as member of the House of Representatives, member of the House of Peers, president of the Chikuho Coal Mining Association, and chairman of the Coal Mining Association.
