Mount Ishikari - Mount Ishikari

Japanese:
Mount Ishikari - Mount Ishikari

The main peak of the Ishikari Mountains in central Hokkaido. It is 1,967 meters above sea level. The ridgeline that stretches from the summit to the northeast and southwest divides Ishikari Province and Tokachi Province, which were established in 1869 (Meiji 2), and the mountain itself straddles Kamikawa Town under the Kamikawa General Subprefectural Bureau and Kamishihoro Town under the Tokachi General Subprefectural Bureau. The mountain is made up of the Hidaka Group of Palaeozoic strata, and the rock types include slate, greywacke, and hornfels. The mountainside below 1,500 meters is covered with natural forests, which are protected as conservation forests, with coniferous forests on the northern slopes and broadleaf and mixed forests on the southern slopes. The Ishikari River originates from the northern foot of the mountain, but at one time it was believed to originate from Mount Daisetsu, and Mount Daisetsu was called Ishikari-dake at the time.
