An Old World monkey of the Cercopithecidae family of primates that inhabits Laos, Vietnam, and the surrounding islands. There is one genus and one species. It is thought to be an ancient type of monkey that connects the Colobinae and Cercopithecinae subfamilies. Its body color is dark gray with white hair on its cheeks and neck. Its face is black or yellow. Its muzzle is slightly more prominent than that of other Colobinae monkeys. The head and body length is 55-82 cm in males and 60-63 cm in females. The tail length is 60-77 cm in males and 60-67 cm in females. It prefers leaves. It has a stomach with several constrictions similar to that of herbivores such as cows, some of which contain enzymes that digest the plant fiber cellulose.
