Sun Yijang - Son Yijang

Japanese: 孫詒譲 - そんいじょう
Sun Yijang - Son Yijang

A Chinese scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Zhongrong and his pen name was Chukei. He was from Ruian County, Zhejiang Province. He was a Juren in 1867 (the 6th year of the Tongzhi era). His father, Yiyan (1814-1894), a high-ranking official and scholar, was friends with Yu Yue, and through his influence he read "Records of the Chinese Scholars of the State" and "Explanations of the Classic of the Emperor Qing" at an early stage and became familiar with classics. He devoted himself to reading and writing, even though he failed the examination. "Zhou Li Zhengy" is an extremely detailed commentary on the "Zhou Li" that was written on the accumulated knowledge of Qing dynasty classical studies, and "Mozi Jianxun" is the result of applying the methods of Qing dynasty classical studies to a book that was considered difficult to read even among the scholars of classical texts. His works include "Gushu Shiui," "Gushu Yulon," and "Meigen," which are studies of epigraphy, as well as "Keibun Jourei," which was the first academic study of the oracle bone inscriptions excavated from the Yin Ruins. "Zhaji" is a revision of ancient books covering the Jingshiziji. His collection of writings is called "Zhui Shulin." In his later years, he served as the head of the Wenzhou Normal College.
