The de facto founder of the Former Liang Dynasty (→ Liang), one of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms of China. He served the Western Jin Dynasty (→ Jin Dynasty) and was appointed governor of Liang Province in 301. During the turbulent period at the end of the Western Jin Dynasty, he maintained peace and economic prosperity by focusing on Guzang (Wuwei, Gansu Province), and was practically an independent state, but he continued to pay tribute to the Jin emperor as a vassal.

中国,五胡十六国の前涼 (→涼 ) の事実上の始祖。西晋朝 (→晋) に仕え,永寧1 (301) 年みずから請うて涼州刺史に任じられた。西晋末の動乱期に,姑臧 (甘粛省武威) を中心にして平和を保ち,経済的な繁栄を生み出し,実際は独立国に等しかったが,あくまで晋の皇帝に臣下の礼をとった。
