Subei Irrigation Canal (English: Subei Irrigation Canal)

Japanese: 蘇北灌漑総渠 - そほくかんがいそうきょ（英語表記）Sū běi guàn gài zŏng qú

An artificial channel in northern Jiangsu Province, China, which runs northeast from Gaoliang Gorge on the east bank of Hongze Lake, passing through Huai'an, Funing, Binhai County, and other areas, before reaching the Yellow Sea at the port of Biantan. The lower Huai River basin east of Hongze Lake has been subject to repeated flooding and drought throughout history due to unstable precipitation in the upper reaches, and the coastal areas have suffered from salinization due to the intrusion of sea tides. After liberation, comprehensive flood control projects were carried out in the Huai River basin, which had been devastated by the Yellow River's collapse, and this waterway was constructed in 1951-52 as part of these projects. With a total length of 168 km, it not only supplies irrigation water to the surrounding rice fields, but also aims to stabilize the basin by directly discharging the water of the Huai River from Hongze Lake.

中国，江蘇省北部，洪沢湖の東岸高良澗より北東に，淮安（わいあん），阜寧，浜海県等を経て扁担港口で黄海へ達する人工流路。洪沢湖以東の淮河下流域は，上流部の不安定な降水量により，歴史時代を通じてつねに水害･干害をくりかえし，また沿海地区は海潮の進入もあり塩土化に悩まされていた。解放後，黄河の決壊等で荒廃した淮河流域の総合的治水事業がすすめられ，その一環として1951‐52年，この水路が建設された。全長168km，周辺の水田に灌漑用水を供給するだけでなく，洪沢湖より淮河の水を直接排出することで，流域の安定をはかった。
