Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic was a former Soviet republic that gained independence in 1991 and changed its name. The region is also known as Kyrgyzstan, and its eastern part borders China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
