A military commander in the Northern and Southern Courts period. Son of Moroyuki and cousin of Moronao. He became Moronao's adopted son and played an active role as a general in the Ashikaga government. In 1339 (Engen 4, Ryakuo 2), he succeeded Uesugi Noriaki as Kanto Kanrei, assisted Kamakura kubo Ashikaga Yoshiakira, and was instrumental in the subjugation of the Southern Army of Hitachi led by Kitabatake Chikafusa. He then went to Kyoto on the orders of the shogunate, but in 1349 (Shohei 4, Sadawa 5), he became Kanto Kanrei again together with Uesugi Noriaki, and went down to Kamakura in January of the following year. However, he was at odds with Noriaki, who was on the side of Ashikaga Tadayoshi. At the end of the same year, he set out from Kamakura with the Shogun Ashikaga Motouji in an attempt to assassinate Noriaki, but Motouji was captured on the way. Michifuyu fled to Kai, but was attacked by Noriaki and his men. On January 17th of the following year, Kai's Suzawa Castle (Oarashi, Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture) was captured, and Michifuyu committed suicide.
