Sotobo

Japanese: 外房 - そとぼう
Sotobo

Refers to the open sea (Pacific Ocean) of Boso in southern Chiba Prefecture, and is a term used in contrast to Uchibo. In a narrow sense, it refers to the Pacific coast from Sunosaki in Tateyama City to Osenkorogashi in Katsuura City, and in a broader sense, it includes up to Taitozaki. The rocky coast is a popular fishing ground for abalone, turban shells, seaweed, and other seaweed, and the warm winter climate allows for the cultivation of flowers. The entire area belongs to Minamiboso Quasi-National Park, and is dotted with beaches and tourist facilities, including Nojimazaki in Shirahama, Kamogawa Sea World, Niemon Island, Tainoura in Amatsukominato, Tanjoji Temple, Seichoji Temple, Katsuura Marine Park, and the beach in Onjuku.
