Also known as a monetary union. An economic union is an international agreement between multiple sovereign nations to remove obstacles to international currency transactions within the union for the purpose of promoting economic development. Generally, independent sovereign nation-states exercise their political and economic sovereignty to implement their own economic policies, including monetary policy. This uniqueness is natural, since each country has its own history, culture, economic circumstances, and policy goals, but on the other hand, it makes international economic transactions more complicated and various barriers to currency transactions are likely to arise.
