[raw]? [Died] Sutei 1 (1628) Chinese painter and calligrapher in the late Ming Dynasty. His pen name was Zhongzhao, and his pen names included Youshi and Shiyin. His ancestors were from Guanzhong (Shaanxi Province), and his father moved to Beijing. In 1595, he became a Jinshi (official scholar), and rose to the position of Taibo Si Shaoqing. His paintings are said to have been influenced by Fan Kuan and Wang Meng, but there is a wide stylistic variation in his extant works, with many that seem to have been influenced by the Zhejiang school, and others that show a highly individual style. As a calligrapher, he was known alongside Xing Dong, Zhang Ruitu, and Dong Qichang as "Xing, Zhang, Mi, Dong" or "Southern Dong, North America." His books include "Collection of Writings by Chengdan Hall." Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
