Sacheon

Japanese: 泗川 - しせん
Sacheon
A port city in the southwestern tip of South Gyeongsang Province, Korea. Samcheonpo City merged with Sacheon County in 1995 and changed its name. Located southeast of Sacheon Bay, it is a natural harbor with mountains such as Gaksan (498m) and Waryongsan (798m) towering behind it, and Sinsu Island, Neuk Island, and Mado Island dotted in front of Samcheonpo Port. It is located within Hallyeohaesang National Park. The climate is mild due to the influence of warm currents, and there is a lot of precipitation, making it a popular summer and winter resort. In addition to mackerel, sea bream, sardines, and squid, it also produces seaweed and oysters. Seafood processing and the pottery and brewing industries are thriving. Population: 107,000 (2005).
