Flying coins - Hisen

Japanese:
Flying coins - Hisen

An early remittance bill system in China. Around the Yuanhe period of the Tang Dynasty (806-820), when a merchant who went to Chang'an from the provinces to do business and sent money back to his hometown, he would go to the Shinsoin (Chang'an branch office of each governor), which was the Chang'an branch office of each governor, to make a bill, split it in half, take one half with him to his hometown, and check it against the stub sent separately to receive the cash. Other governors such as military, household, salt, iron, and duty officers also issued bills. It eliminated the inconvenience of transporting copper coins and saved on currency. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, credit was not maintained in the provinces and the system fell into disarray. During the Song Dynasty, it was called benkan (exchangeable currency) or bensen (exchangeable currency).
