Soft earthenware made in Japan during the Nara period in imitation of Tang Sancai. It was fired at a low temperature using green, brown, and white glazes. The "Shosoin Sancai" handed down in the Shosoin Repository is a representative example of this. Its manufacturing method is recorded in the Shosoin Documents. It is now concentrated in the area centered around Nara Prefecture, and was apparently used at the imperial court and temples.
