His father ruled the entire Owari province as a deputy and married a member of the Owari clan of Atsuta Daigūji. Suenori's mother was the daughter of Owari Inshiki, the Atsuta Daigūji. Inshiki bestowed the position of Daigūji on his grandson by marriage, Suenori, who became the first Daigūji of the Fujiwara clan. He was later promoted to the rank of Junior Fourth Rank. As a result, the position of Daigūji became hereditary from the Owari clan to the Fujiwara clan.
