This device extracts soluble components in solid samples using a volatile solvent. It has a reflux condenser at the top and a section below it for placing a cylindrical filter paper containing a solid sample, and the solvent is placed in the flask at the bottom and heated. The solvent vapor passes through the side tube to the reflux condenser, where it is cooled and turns into a liquid, which falls onto the solid sample. When the solvent accumulates, it passes through the filter paper, extracting it from the solid, and falls into the flask below via a siphon on the right. This process is repeated, allowing efficient extraction using a small amount of solvent.

固体試料中の可溶性成分を揮発性溶媒を用いて抽出する装置。上部に還流冷却器，その下に固体試料を入れた筒形の濾紙(ろし)をおく部分があり，下部のフラスコに溶媒を入れて熱する。溶媒蒸気は側管を通って還流冷却器に達し冷やされ液体となり固体試料上に落ちる。溶媒がたまると固体から抽出しながら濾紙を通って右側のサイホンにより下のフラスコに落ちる。これが繰り返されて少量の溶媒で能率よく抽出が行われる。
