〘Noun〙① A deciduous tall tree of the Bombacaceae family. Native to the tropical regions from India to Taiwan. It is rarely cultivated in tropical regions to obtain seed hair fiber, and is also cultivated in greenhouses in temperate regions for ornamental purposes. It reaches a height of about 30 meters. The leaves are palmately compound with long stalks and three to seven leaflets. Each leaflet has a short stalk, is oblong, and about 15 cm long. In spring, the ends of the branches bear numerous clusters of orange-red, deep crimson, or white five-petaled flowers, each about 10 cm long. The fruits are oblong and about 15 cm long. The seeds have fluff and are used in the same way as kapok. The wood is white and light, and is used for dugout canoes and tea boxes, and the roots are used as a tonic.
