Italian architect and structural engineer. He had a deep understanding of the characteristics of reinforced concrete and developed a dynamic, modern aesthetic. Born in Lombardy, he studied engineering in Bologna. He taught structural engineering at the University of Rome's Department of Architecture, but also achieved many outstanding results in practical design. As a structural engineer, he is known for his work with Breuer on the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (1952), the Pirelli Building in Milan (1958) with Gio Ponti, and the National Industrial Center in Paris (1955). As an architect, he left behind notable examples such as the Belta Stadium in Florence (1932), the Exhibition Center in Turin (1949) and the Workers' House (1961). Even in the fields of bridges, silos, hangars, and other areas where architecture and structural engineering intersect, many of his works are highly regarded today. He died in Rome.
