Ikoma clan

Japanese:
Ikoma clan

He was the lord of Yashima Domain in Dewa Province (Akita Prefecture). He is said to have been from Ikoma-sho, Yamato Province (Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture), and moved to Owari Province (Aichi Prefecture) during the late Muromachi period under Iehiro. After that, Chikamasa served Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and in 1585 (Tensho 13) he was given 23,000 koku of land in Takashima County, Omi Province (Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture). After Hideyoshi conquered Kyushu, he was given the entire province of Sanuki (Kagawa Prefecture), with 61,000 koku of land, and built Takamatsu Castle, where he lived. He was one of the three elders of the Toyotomi clan, and fought in the Bunroku and Keicho Wars. They also played important roles as advisors to Hideyori. In the Battle of Sekigahara, Chikayuki's son Kazumasa fought on the Eastern side, and his grandson Masatoshi fought on the Western side. After the battle, Kazumasa's stipend was increased to 170,000 koku. In 1640 (Kan'ei 17), during the reign of Masatoshi's son Takatoshi, an internal conflict called the "Ikoma Disturbance" occurred due to a dispute between vassals, and his territory was confiscated and he was transferred to Yajima in Dewa Province (Yurihonjo City) with a fief of 10,000 koku. Later, as his fief was divided, he became a hatamoto and continued to serve as a koutai yori aishu until the end of the Edo period. In 1868 (Meiji 1), Chikayuki pledged loyalty to the new government and established the Yajima domain with a fief of 15,000 koku. After the abolition of the feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures, he was made a baron.
