A group of minerals that have the phosphate group PO ₄ ^3- as their main chemical component. The basic crystal structure is similar to that of silicate minerals, a regular tetrahedron of PO ₄ consisting of a P atom at the center and four oxygen atoms. Compared to silicates, the polymerization method is simpler in natural products. Some of the P may be replaced by Si, As, S, etc. As a mineral group, they share many similarities with arsenate minerals, and many mineral species are isomorphous with their corresponding arsenate minerals. Examples include the phosphate mineral strengite Fe ^3＋ (PO ₄ )･2H ₂ O and the arsenate mineral scorodite Fe ^3＋ (AsO ₄ )･2H ₂ O.

リン酸基PO₄^3－を主要化学成分としてもつ鉱物群。結晶構造の基本はケイ酸塩鉱物と類似していて，P原子を中心に4個の酸素原子で構成するPO₄の正四面体である。ケイ酸塩に比べるとその重合の型式は天然物の場合はより簡単である。このPの一部はSi,As,Sなどで置換される場合もある。また鉱物群としてはヒ(砒)酸塩鉱物と同類似性が多く，多くの鉱物種はそれぞれ対応するヒ酸塩鉱物と同形の関係を示す。リン酸塩鉱物ストレング石strengite Fe^3＋(PO₄)･2H₂Oとヒ酸塩鉱物スコロド石scorodite Fe^3＋(AsO₄)･2H₂Oなどはその例である。
