A city in northern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1947. The city center is located on the left bank of the Yodo River. In the early modern period, it prospered as a post town on the Kyoto Highway and as a river port on the Yodo River. After the opening of the Keihan Electric Railway in 1910, it developed into a residential area. The Keihan Katano Line branches off from the Keihan Main Line and the Katamachi Line runs through the area. In recent years, large housing complexes such as Kori New Town and industrial complexes for metals, machinery, textiles, furniture, etc. have been built, and the area has become rapidly urbanized. It is home to the remains of Baekje Temple (a special historic site), Makino Kurumazuka Tomb (historic site), and Hirakata Park, famous for its chrysanthemum dolls. It has an area of ​​65.12 km2 and a population of 407,978 (2010).
