1870‐1949
Founder of Bank of America, one of the world's largest banks. Born in California to Italian immigrants, he worked for his father's agricultural produce business in his youth. In 1901 he became an executive of the Columbus Savings Association, but resigned after clashing with other executives over management policies. In 1904 he established the Bank of Italy in San Francisco, and was one of the first to provide loans after the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, contributing to the city's reconstruction. He subsequently expanded his branch network by merging smaller banks one after another, and established a holding company to oversee them.

世界最大級の銀行バンク･オブ･アメリカ(バンカメリカ)の創設者。イタリア移民の子としてアメリカのカリフォルニア州に生まれ，若いころは農産物を取り扱う父親の事業に従事した。1901年コロンブス貯蓄組合の重役になったが経営方針で他の重役と対立して辞任し，04年サンフランシスコにイタリア銀行を設立，06年のサンフランシスコ大地震の際はいちはやく貸付けを行って市の再建に寄与した。その後，小銀行をつぎつぎと合併して支店網を拡大し，持株会社を設立してそれらを統轄した。
