Until the last decade of the 20th century, it was the most important language in the former Yugoslavia and was treated as one language together with Serbo-Croatian (Serbo-Kroatian), but with the breakup of Yugoslavia, it split into Serbian, which uses the Cyrillic alphabet, and Croatian, which uses the Latin alphabet, and is now considered to be two languages. However, the terms Serbian and Croatian have been used for some time. Both languages belong to the South Slavic language family of the Slavic language family, and since they were once treated as one language, they are naturally very similar in every respect except for the characters, and there is no problem with mutual understanding.
