Cupreous worm - Cupreous worm

An insect belonging to the family Scarabaeidae in the order Coleoptera of the class Insecta. It is found throughout Japan, the Kuril Islands, the Korean Peninsula, northern China, and the Ussuri River basin. It is an egg-shaped beetle with a swollen back and a dull copper-colored luster, measuring 20-24 mm in body length, and often flies to lights in summer. It feeds on the leaves of fruit trees and other broad-leaved trees, and its larvae are worms that live underground and damage tree roots. One generation usually lasts three years.

昆虫綱甲虫目コガネムシ科に属する昆虫。日本各地、千島列島、朝鮮半島、中国北部、ウスリー川流域に分布する。体長20～24ミリ、卵形で背部が膨らみ、暗い銅色の鈍い光沢をもつ甲虫で、夏によく灯火に飛来する。果樹など広葉樹の葉を食べ、幼虫は土中で生活するジムシで、木の根を害し、一世代は普通3年である。
