Marinus

Japanese: Marinus
Marinus

...The northeastern part of the limestone Monte Carpegna overlooks the city of Rimini and forms Monte Titano (726m above sea level) facing the Po plain. The summit of this mountain is the capital of the Republic of San Marino, with a population of 4,300 (1993). According to legend, the origin of the country is said to be in the mid-4th century, when Marinus, a Christian stonemason from the island of Arbe in Dalmatia, settled on Monte Titano and formed a kind of commune with his fellow Christians. By the 11th century, they had built an impregnable fortress that took advantage of the terrain to prepare for invasions by Muslims, Normans, and others.
