A mollusc in the family Polyplacophora, Chitonidae. It can reach a body length of 5.5 cm, width of 4.4 cm, and height of 1 cm. It is nearly circular and ovoid, with the dorsal shell being round and leaning toward the rear, so the fleshy band around the shell is wider at the front. There are eight shells arranged front to back, overlapping each other. Each shell is elongated and pale gray-brown with brown vertical stripes. There are numerous projections and small needles on the fleshy band, which is pale in color. The front part of the underside of the fleshy band has a dark red radial band. There are also 12 to 20 finger-like projections on the inner edge at the front. It inhabits intertidal reefs from Honshu to Kyushu.

多板綱ヒゲヒザラガイ科の軟体動物。体の長さ5.5cm，幅4.4cm，高さ1cmに達する。円形に近い卵形，背面の殻の部分は丸くて後方に寄るので，殻のまわりの肉帯は前方で広い。殻は前後に8枚が重なりあって並ぶ。おのおのは横に細長く淡灰褐色で褐色の縦縞がある。肉帯の上には多数の突起と小針があり，色は淡い。肉帯の下面の前部は暗赤色の放射帯がある。また前方の内縁には12～20本の指状突起がある。本州～九州の潮間帯の岩礁にすむ。
