Senufo; Senoufo

Japanese: セヌフォ族 - セヌフォぞく(英語表記)Senufo; Senoufo
Senufo; Senoufo
Indigenous people of northern Côte d'Ivoire and southeastern Mali in West Africa. Their population is estimated at over 2 million. Their language belongs to the Guru group of the Niger-Congo language family, and is divided into at least four dialects. They are divided into many regional groups, each with its own name for itself and for their language. The name Senufo was given to them by outsiders. They are agricultural people who grow corn and sorghum as their main crops, and their fields are located around their settlements. The family structure is an extended family, with a head of the household, sons, their wives, and children. Polygamy is common, and inheritance is passed on to brothers from the same mother or to members of the mother's family. Initiation rites in adolescence are the first step towards adult responsibilities. They are also skilled in music, and their marimba and drum ensembles are famous.
