vamp

...A general term for monsters (often in the form of spirits or dead people) that are said to suck the blood of humans and animals. It was only in Europe from the 18th century onwards that these were unified and fixed under the names vampire and vampire, but similar beings were widely known before then and in countries outside of Europe as well. Examples include the Greek mythological monster Lamia, who kidnapped infants and sucked their blood, the Empusa, who seduced young men and sucked their blood, the lustful and cruel Thessalian priestess, the Portuguese Bruca, the Arabian Ghoul, and the German Dold.
