Cumarone - Kumaron (English spelling)

Japanese: クマロン - くまろん（英語表記）cumarone

A heterocyclic compound containing an oxygen atom in the ring. Also known as benzofuran. Found in small amounts in the light oil fraction of coal tar.

It is obtained by cyclization of phenoxyacetaldehyde in the presence of zinc chloride. It is a colorless, aromatic liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in various organic solvents. The tar fraction containing coumarone and indene is purified and polymerized to give thermoplastic synthetic resins called coumarone resins or coumarone-indene resins. They are used in the manufacture of paints, printing inks, etc.

環内に酸素原子を含む複素環式化合物の一つ。ベンゾフランの別名をもつ。コールタールの軽油留分に少量含まれている。

　フェノキシアセトアルデヒドを塩化亜鉛の存在下で環化させると得られる。無色の芳香をもつ液体で、水には溶けないが種々の有機溶媒に溶ける。クマロンおよびインデンを含有するタール留分を精製して重合させると、クマロン樹脂あるいはクマロンインデン樹脂とよばれる熱可塑性の合成樹脂が得られる。これは塗料、印刷インキなどの製造に用いられる。
