〘Noun〙 The name of the marble stone produced near Sukegawa, Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is also commonly referred to as pure white marble. It is a Paleozoic crystalline limestone with gray stripes on a white background and large crystal grains. It is used for building interior materials, carving materials, and insulating materials for electrical distribution boards. 〘名〙 茨城県日立市助川付近に産出する大理石の石材名。一般には純白の大理石をもいう。古生代の結晶質石灰岩で、白地に灰色の縞があり、結晶粒も大きい。建築用内装材、彫刻材、配電盤用絶縁材などに用いられる。〔書言字考節用集(1717)〕
